Hamer Hits a New Gear in High School Offseason

The final act of his high school career is upon Goodpasture (TN) Athlete Vincent Hamer, and he is poised to take advantage of this last go-around by breaking loose and allowing his potential to finally shine.

Standing at 6-foot-3 and 185 pounds, Hamer is a long, tall wide receiver that has always looked the part, but was yet to have played up to his potential.

That appears to be changing as the Middle Tennessee prospect has hit a different gear this offseason, striving towards becoming the best player he can be.

“It’s time for me to step up and really push myself towards becoming the best player I can be,” says Hamer. “I am headed into my senior year, so this is my last chance to show what I’ve got and hopefully get myself to the highest level of college football possible.”

Sporting premier size and length already gives Hamer a leg up on most of his competition. It’s the simple realization that if the 6-foot-3 product wants it bad enough, he has the talents to take him there.

So far during the offseason, Hamer has been learning some new positions on the opposite side of the ball. Besides his continued work at wide receiver, he is also spending time learning to play cornerback, as well as safety. His size and length have translated well to defense and showed him that he could become an excellent cover guy or centerfield ball hawk.

Hamer has recently taken to the idea of playing defense in college and sees the value of playing both ways and learning as much as can about the game of football.

“Things always come with a learning process along with trial and error, but you just have to get pushing and learning”, he said. “I am an athlete first and foremost, so I’m trying to embrace that concept. Being an athlete means I should be able to play several positions, if I put my mind to it.

“I think playing wide receiver for so many years gives me an advantage when playing in the secondary. I understand how my opposition moves and how they operate. I am really enjoying learning to play a new position that I think I am getting better at, and it gives me another way to make it to the next level.”

That next level is already beginning to call, as coaches are starting to take notice. Hamer says he has already hit the road to see a few places this spring and has intentions to check out several more college campuses in the near future.

“So far I have been to Memphis and I’ve seen Miami (OH). I have plans to visit Kentucky, Eastern Kentucky and Austin Peay. I have also had more and more coaches reach out and make contact over the past several weeks, so I could be visiting some more places as well.”

Still yet to receive his first official college offer, Hamer is waiting patiently while improving his craft on and off the field, as he continues to better himself in the classroom as well.

Hamer has strong grades to back up his on-field capabilities and says he is, and will always dedicate himself as a student first and foremost. He has already positioned himself academically for the next level, but says he understands that this offseason and his senior year on the field is where he must take the next step to see his Division-1 college football dreams come true.

“I am so focused everyday on getting better and doing everything I can to perfect my craft and put myself in the best position possible to play big time college ball,” he said. “My senior season to me is all about perfection and taking that next step. I am planning to leave no doubts and no regrets about myself this year. I am going all in and doing everything it takes to make my dreams come true.”

The potential has always been there, but the light appears to be coming on for this football specimen. The more work he puts in, the more his potential will show; and once this football star has fully matured and blossomed, beware.
