Karen Danika Tate
Executive Director, CBA Foundation
Service has shaped every chapter of my life. As the daughter of immigrant parents and a first-generation American, I learned early that the greatest measure of success is not what we achieve for ourselves, but what we do for others. My parents began volunteering after Hurricane Andrew devastated South Florida in 1992, and they instilled in me the belief that when a community is hurting, you show up. I began volunteering with the American Red Cross at just 13 years old, and what started as a commitment to serve quickly became my life's passion. At 17, I was honored with an award for outstanding performance during a natural disaster and had the privilege of meeting the President of the American Red Cross—an experience that reinforced my dedication to humanitarian service and inspired me to continue leading with compassion and purpose. A proud Miami native, I attended Palm Beach State College and the University of Tennessee. Throughout my teenage years, I benefited from nonprofit organizations and volunteer programs that helped shape my future, including participating on the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office Police Athletic League boxing team. Those experiences taught me firsthand how one opportunity, one mentor, or one caring volunteer can change the trajectory of a young person's life. Since the age of 18, I have dedicated my career to the nonprofit sector, serving in public relations, media relations, operations management, and translation services. Whether responding to disasters, supporting underserved communities, or building programs that create opportunity, my mission has always remained the same: to connect people with hope when they need it most. Today, as Executive Director of the CBA Foundation, I am honored to help young athletes and their families unlock opportunities through mentorship, academic support, athletic development, mental health resources provided by qualified and licensed professionals, and access to higher education. I believe athletics can be a powerful gateway to education, leadership, and lifelong success, but no young person should have to navigate that journey alone. Without volunteers, our world grows a little darker. Every act of kindness—no matter how small—has the power to become someone's turning point. We may not always be able to solve every problem, but we can always be a light in someone's life by giving what we can, when we can, with compassion and purpose. That belief has guided me since I was 13 years old, and it continues to inspire everything we do at the CBA Foundation. "Be the light. You never know whose future will shine because you chose to serve."
